100 Video Suite points to anyone who can name all the hip-hop references in this stupidly-well written short film Hip Hop Cafe. The film is a celebration of lyricism from all eras of hip-hop, as we see conversations taking place in different situation and moods around the cafe all in famous lines and lyrics. There’s a young couple having an emotional moment (“Pack it up, pack it in” “Let me begin!”), a flirty pair of older women (“Shake yo’ ass, show me what ya working with”) and a decidely grumpy cafe owner (“Cash rules everything around me”). Hip-hop-history aside, the film is beautifully shot with searing neon lights and stylised costumes, but anyone who can name where all these lyrics come from is undoubtably the real hip-hop superstar.
