While the build up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia might have blessed us with a Guy Ritchie-directed Beats by Dre advert, an adidas ad featuring everyone who has ever played football ever and even an animated film about the life of Lionel Messi, if there’s one thing that’s been missing it was a proper World Cup anthem – something as timeless as New Order’s World In Motion or even Vindaloo by Fat Less. Of all people, CBeebies have been the one to answer this call by giving us the World Cup Kick Song by the popular cartoon about a big friendly dog Hey Duggee. If at first it seems a bit too cutesy, close your eyes and imagine 60,000 football hooligans chanting kick, kick, kick in the same manner – kinda works doesn’t it?
