When most food shows travel to Japan, they focus on the capital, Tokyo, but Munchies decided to visit the quiet Northern region of country.

The stunning countryside is filled with cosy restaurants and hidden gems. In the small town of Genbikei the host finds a dumpling house that’s atop a rocky hill. If people want to get some grub, they place some money in a small basket which is attached to a zipwire. The basket is then pulled up to the top of the hill, where the chef makes a tasty treat for the customer. He sends it back down, accompanied with a Japanese flag that sits alongside the native flag of the customer’s homeland.

It’s an amazing idea and the food is top-notch too. After that, we take a trip into the bustling centre of Hachinohe. Here, the host drinks with some locals and is taught some traditional Japanese drinking games. No trip to Japan would be complete without a healthy serving of sake after all. We love this video from Munchies, it feels like we’ve taken a little trip ourselves just by watching it.
