Fishtown Soldier

This beautifully shot short documentary deals with issues of gentrification facing residents in an area of Philadelphia. The film focuses on Dennis Bowers, a local celebrity of an area called Fishtown. Dennis is known for playing handball against a specific wall every week, the same wall he has been playing handball against since the 70’s. The short features narration from Bowers himself talking about his past and what inspires him to keep returning to “his” corner, and combines drone shots, slow motion footage and photographs to make a compelling and stylish short film.
