Great Big Story and P&G made this short film that highlights the battle for equal rights in workplaces in America. It shows us just how much a few brave people can achieve.
It follows the story of a group of employees at P&G who fought to have LGBT rights protected in the workplace. In the 1990s, open homophobia in offices was common and many bosses made it clear that they did not want to hire gay people. For some, this meant hiding a huge part of their life. At the time, a boss could fire someone just for being gay with no consequence at all. They could also choose to not hire someone purely for the fact that they were gay.
In this documentary, we meet a team of workers who fought for equal rights in the workplace in the 90s. Against all odds, they managed to get homophobic laws repealed and got more protections for LGBT people in work. It’s a touching story that reminds us of the hard-fought battles that meant that the office could truly be an equal place.
