The BBC’s launch trailer for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia is an incredibly animated tapestry celebrating (and commiserating) old World Cup campaigns, while looking towards the future of the competition. The video itself was created by combining over 600 frames of individually embroidered tapestry, which when combined creates a dynamic and morphing journey showing us everything from old World Cup legends like Maradona, Zidane and Gascoigne, to the current stars of the competition Kane and Ronaldo running head on towards each other. The tagline, “History will be made”, is a reminder of the significance of the competition to the world of sports through both the teams and individuals involved.
