This beautiful animation for Greenpeace sends a powerful message about the plight of the orangutan in the rainforest. Frozen food retailed Iceland have now re-packaged it as part of their Christmas advert, along with a promise to stop using palm oil in all their products – only for it to be banned by Clearcast for being “too political”

With a voiceover from Emma Thompson, “There’s a Rang-tan in my bedroom” is like an animated children’s poem, as a young girl questions why there’s a young orangutan in her bedroom causing havoc and generally making a mess.

When Rang-tan explains her presence, it is due to human interference in the rainforest, mainly due to the cultivation of Palm Oil, an ingredient used in many modern day products. The animation takes a dark turn from a playful monkey in a child’s bedroom, to seeing the environment that is Rang-tan’s home being destroyed by logging companies.

The video is the spearhead of a new campaign from Greenpeace lobbying large corporations to stop using Palm Oil sourced from rainforests in their products – you can read more about the campaign at their website here.
