ESPN and The Aspen Institute shine a light on the issue of kids retiring from sport at a young age.

In this ad, we see a child at a press conference announcing his retirement from sport. It’s surreal to see him in this situation and the whole thing parodies the conferences held by pro athletes in real life. Sometimes, people complain that a player retired too early, but in this ad, we see someone who’s retired before they’ve even become an adult.

It ends with a message that 62% of children in the US have given up on sports. The ad points out that sometimes parents and coaches put too much pressure on children to perform well and take the fun out of the game. It asks parents to reflect on the stress that they put on their kids and warns them that they might be putting them off playing. It’s an important issue, as children miss out on a lot of benefits to their social life and health if they choose to ditch sport early.
