DJI shows us how their drones are being used to help save koalas in Australia in this documentary.

Despite being one of Australia’s most iconic animals, koala populations are falling by alarming rates in the country. Soon, they could be at serious risk of going totally extinct. But in this doc, we learn how a conservation group are using drones and heat mapping technology to find wild koalas and ensure that the areas where there most prevalent are looked after. Furthermore, knowing where the animal’s habitats are means that it will be easier to rescue them in the event of a forest fire.

Before, the data about where koalas were living was collected on foot. It could take days to cover a relatively small patch of land and accurately map where wild populations were living. But now, the teams here can get far more data much more quickly, ensuring that more koalas can be protected. It’s a lovely documentary that shows us the brilliant work that can be done with drone technology. Did you enjoy the video? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below.
