TED-Ed tell us how self-driving cars “see” in this cool animation. Self-driving cars are one of the coolest, yet scariest modern innovations. But can we trust it?

In this fascinating video, we learn the complex systems that help self-driving cars to work out where they are. The systems that they use allow them to detect potential dangers thousands of times faster than a human eye and make split-second decisions. These cars could be a huge step forward in road safety.

The video walks us through all the science mumbo-jumbo, explaining all the complicated jargon in understandable terms. It does point out that the tech is still in its early stages and probably isn’t quite ready to be rolled out fully just yet. But TED-Ed think it’s a matter of when, not if, we’ll see self-driving cars on our roads in the future. What do you think? Would you be willing to take your hands off the wheel?
