Experimental folk artist Conner Youngblood reveals how he made it in music in this revealing documentary from Spotify.

He tells us how he wasn’t all that savvy with social media and initially struggled to find a way to promote his music. The nature of his songs meant that they weren’t really suited for pop radio stations. He emailed thousands of blogs and built up a name for himself but still wasn’t getting the breakthrough he needed. He tells us how he got in touch with the guys at Spotify For Artists, who helped him get on various playlists on the service. This allowed Conner to create a worldwide fanbase and launch his first global tour.

It’s a great short doc from Spotify that shows us the work that they’re doing to promote up-and-coming artists. The music service has become renown for its incredible selection of playlists. Now, they’re doing more than ever to find the best new artists and give them a leg-up. It’s a smart idea, as the more brill musicians that come through, the more streams Spotify gets.
