Abdu is a short film by director Paul Stone. It tells the story of Abdu Ali Malahi, a brave man who helped save hundreds of lives on 9/11.

Abdu came to New York as a child from Yemen. He came from a Muslim family and faced discrimination from people in the area when he first came over. Despite that, Abdu felt that New York was his home and loved living in Brookyln. When he was older, he started working in the Marriott Hotel, which was located right next to the World Trade Center. When two planes flew into the Twin Towers, Abdu knew he needed to evacuate the hotel as quickly as possible.

He heroically went from room to room, getting people out of the building. Abdu saved hundreds of lives that day, as the the towers of the World Trade Center collapsed onto the Marriott Hotel not long after they were first hit. This short film blends shots of modern New York and the Freedom Tower with the audio of Abdu’s story. The shots that we see in this short film are incredibly simple and stripped back, but also poignant and powerful.
