The Prince Estate have released a video to accompany the the song Mary Don’t You Weep – a track from his recently unearthed album Piano & A Microphone 1983, which features never before heard songs recorded by the singer at his home studio in the summer of ’83.

The video addresses the issue of gun violence, using a direct quote from Prince himself as one of the opening cards of the video: “The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life”

Centring around the funeral of a young man, we see him watch from across the room as his family grieve for his loss, then a series of flashback which show him hanging out with friends and trying to connect with his mother.

The song itself is a cover of a traditional African American song from the American Civil War, was recorded in one take and was recently used in the Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman.
