Sports movies can always be a hard one to pull off – you need drama, good characters and some kind of personal conflict to keep things interesting. Well, there couldn’t be a rivalry more suited to being on the big screen than the now infamous men’s singles final at Wimbledon in 1980 between the Swedish Björn Borg and American John McEnroe, one of the most famous sporting rivalries in history. Shia LaBeouf stars as McEnroe, channeling all of his “DO IT” anger into the character (isn’t it about time he had a chance to act in a decent film for once), and Sverrir Gudnason takes on the task of portraying the unflappable Borg. With a high rating on review-aggregating website Rotten Tomatoes, this looks like it could be the first actually good tennis movie to be made.
