Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas show Rolling Stone how they created her hit song Bad Guy.

The popular song was Billie’s biggest hit so far and it got to number 1 in 10 different countries. The music video for the song on YouTube has amassed a stunning 600 million views. In this video, we hear how her and her brother went about creating the song. Interestingly, they bounced ideas around for it for a year and it ended up sounding different from their original concept.

The two made some interesting decisions in the writing process and decided to make the without a chorus. Instead of having a sung hook, the track would just have a catchy synth line fill in that part of the song instead. It was a risk that massively paid off, as the melody ended up being one of the catchiest choruses of 2019. It’s really interesting to hear the duo’s approach to writing and how they put together one of the biggest songs of the 2010s.
