In a powerful new web series, The Guardian’s Beyond the Blade explores how knife crime affects more than just the immediate people involved in an attack.
Presented as a series of monologues to camera, the stories are “fictional films based on factual reporting”, taking their lead from actual incidents that have affected real people. This episode, titled The Father, sees a dad talking about how he still can’t quite understand how the death of his son came about.
Throughout the short monologue, the father talks about the relationship he had with his son, and how he now wishes he had been more open with him about issues such as knife crime. He also wonders exactly what it is his son could have done to deserve what happened.
