Google Doodles are used all the time to celebrate certain events or key figures from history – in a world first, Google produced an animation that combines Virtual Reality with standard animation to honour the work of acclaimed French filmmaker Georges Méliès, seen by many as the “father of special effects”. The animation begins with Méliès setting up his camera in front of a model of the Moon, and turns into a trippy journey of magic tricks and surprises popping out of boxes as well as a kidnapped princess and an evil devil thrown in for good measure.
