Airbnb made this super cute short film called “Fu” ahead of Chinese New Year this weekend.

Every year, it’s traditional to hang up a Fu, which is a small piece of fabric with a good luck inscription on it. Families always hang this upside down and in the video, we see one young girl constantly turning it the right way up, believing her family has made a mistake. We see her doing this every year, until she’s grown up and moves away from home. Her first time away from her family on New Year is really hard for her and she misses them dearly.

Her family sends her some pictures of them celebrating, but the girl notices something odd. Their front door is different. She realises that it’s the same door that’s on the front of a house near to her. She walks to it and knocks on it gingerly and her parents open it up and invite her in to celebrate. It turns out that they’d booked an Airbnb near to her so they could ring in the new year together. It’s a beautifully animated film that’s a touching reminder of how important it is to spend time with family on special occasions.
