Jim Carrey has become one of the most intriguing stars in Hollywood in recent years, having eschewed his blockbuster-comedy roots to become a children’s author, artist and the subject of two documentaries – this short being one of them. Jim Carrey: I Needed Color is beautifully shot and well edited – the camera simply observes Carrey as he paints, while he explains his creative process in voiceover. Inquisitive without being intrusive, the film paints a picture of a man who has discarded fame in order to pursue something he is passionate about.
